I finally have a reason to give this out. I bought brawl for the online play. Of course I have to unlock all the characters first.
I'd update you guys on the last 3 months of my life.....but nah.....I've been too busy living life to blog about it. Hope you're all doing well. I haven't read any of your entries for the last 3 months. Drop a line (or a friend code) if you want. | comments: 9 comments or Leave a comment |
| So I finally caved and bought the Orange Box for the PC (after realizing that the PS3 version sucks ass). As a result, I have an extra copy of HL2. Does anyone want it? I can give it away for free. It doesn't include Counter Strike or Team Fortress or any of the expansion packs, but it will save you $30 (the a-la-carte price of just HL2). First person who wants it gets it.
Anyway, that's all. I'm gleefully waiting for Portal to finish downloading. I guess I can play Peggle eXtreme in the meantime.
Oh yea, I also bought Ratchet and Clank. It's an awesome game. I recommend it. | comments: 8 comments or Leave a comment |

- Work sucks. Always does.
- Thanksgiving sucked. I don't think I'm going to be seeing my mother or sister voluntarily any time soon. All they could do was complain about my father. Even though I haven't seen them for about 7 months. My sister was so clueless that she believed that I was still in SJ even though I got back in August.
- I'm going to find out about that TA position within the next two weeks. I hope I can go back to school and get the masters.
- If not, then I'm going to have to find a real job. Lame.
- Been playing too many video games lately. But then again, people keep buying them for me. Case in point, I bought Zelda DS the day it came out and I haven't even opened the shrink wrap yet.
- Finished Phoenix Wright last night. Completely awesome game. I'm happy that the 4th installment is going to finally make use of the DS controls (instead of being a straight GBA Port) but I'm not happy that they're ditching pretty much the entire cast to make way for new people. I am skeptical that they'll make me like and identify with the new characters. But then again, I understand why Capcom decided to do that. After finishing the 3rd game, there really isn't much story left to tell about the main gang.
- I still like my PS3 and I plan on getting Orange Box for it, even though I hear there are framerate issues. It'll probably still play better on the PS3 than on my 1.3GHz Pentium M laptop with an 16MB ATI 'Shitty' (Radeon) graphics chipset.
- Finally upgraded RAM and HDD for my aging laptop. I don't feel like dropping $2k for this laptop (though it is nice). I upgraded from 768 MB of RAM and 40 gigs of storage (5400 RPM) to 1.5 GB of RAM and 100 GB of storage (7200 RPM). My laptop is so old that it only supports 2 gigs of ram so I didn't see the need to buy 2 one gig sticks. Also, my laptop uses the older (and more expensive) DDR ram (it's DDR 266 MHz...talk about old).
- Now that I have a bigger HDD, I can finally do what I have wanted to do for at least a year: dual-boot XP and Linux. I'm going to go with Ubuntu 7.10 and use it mostly for programming. I'll devote like 16 gigs to Linux and the rest to XP. I'll also most likely do my 'secure' stuff on Linux (pay my bills, check credit card statements, etc.) and keep the games, movies and music to XP.
- That's all I feel like writing about right now. There's other, more important crap I could bable about, but I don't feel like it.

| Man, I'm old. If anyone told me a year ago that I'd be living with my girlfriend, taking care of 2 bunnies and working for a startup, I would have said that you were on crack. All in all, things are working out okay.
It's weird because this is the first time that my birthday just felt like any other day. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| Short Story: Wicked was mediocre. Really, it's not that good. It's not that bad, but it's just not that good. And the bunnies apparently like to piss all over the place if you're late and miss feeding them (to go watch a shitty musical). Said bunny piss takes about an hour and a half to clean up (this includes a hilarious 5 minute skit where I fill up the bathroom tub a little bit and proceed to throw the bunnies in the tub so they can wash their feet a little...might I remind you that bunnies aren't supposed to be washed nor do they particularly like water and they particularly don't like being picked up...let's say that was not fun).
Long Story: Fuck you. You don't deserve the long story. I'm tired and I'm going to bed. | comments: 7 comments or Leave a comment |
| I just got a PS3. I'm actually pretty happy with the purchase (though I bet I'll cry when I get my credit card bill for this month).
I bought NHL 08 and a long overdue copy of God of War II. I'll spring for Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Resistance soon. I'm also going to download a few of the cheap $10 games (Super Puzzle Fighter, anyone?). I'll probably also buy Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection because it's only $20 to download.
My Online ID is AngryMikeGrrr. I tried a bunch of more normal names, but none of them would register (I even tried my MIT user name, lilmikey, but that was taken too). Add me if you have a PS3 (though I don't think many of the people on this list do).
Work tomorrow. Gotta go make that money. | comments: 4 comments or Leave a comment |
| Sometimes I just wish that I could just drop out of school, own an ice hockey rink and drive a Zamboni all day. It would be a lot easier than trying to get a damn graduate degree.
I'm dropping out for the fall semester (not a surprise) and working with a startup over in Kendall. I'm curious to see where this goes.
I'm also probably going to buy a PS3 real soon. I've been eying it for too long. | comments: 12 comments or Leave a comment |
| | I just lost power in my apartment for about 5 hours. It sucked. I hope this doesn't happen too often. It's funny how quickly you forget how dependent on electricity you are until you completely lose it. Well, sleepy time for me (and by "sleepy time" I really mean "time to finish Hotel Dusk" because I have been rocking the DS for the last few hours in my electricity-less apartment). | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| I finally am pretty much settled in the new place (which is pretty good, btw). I finally have internet and cable. I finally have a couch and table. I finally have a lot of things. The only thing I don't have is a TAship, which means that I don't have a chance of going to school this semester. This makes me very sad. Since I have bills to pay, I need to get a job. Sucks for me. Maybe I'll get to start my masters thesis next semester....
EDIT: I have comcast (which can be good or bad) and the saddest thing is that I'm looking at their remote control and I can think of about 10 usability issues that I would like to fix. I should compare it to the remote control to the TV that we have. Even though they're roughly the same size, there are serious design differences that make the TV remote much better. Oh well, guess that just makes me a nerd. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| Had my last day of internship today. I actually have a bit more respect for Adobe now because my manager basically knew everything I was going to complain about and he apologized for it. I don't know, but when you get to the end of anything, there's always that warm fuzzy feeling you get inside when you realize that it wasn't all that bad. It is as if all of the bad feelings just go away and everything is made right again. I don't know how else to describe it.
So I'm packing right now as I am coming back to Boston tomorrow. I'm really excited to see all of my friends and my family again and I can't wait to find out whether or not I'll be going to school this semester. No matter the challenge, I'm game. Right now my biggest challenge is to fit everything in my single suitcase (yea, I definitely brought too much stuff with me).
Back to packing... | comments: 6 comments or Leave a comment |
| I just finished Phoenix Wright: Justice for All (yea I know, I was a little slow to pick it up) and all I have to say is:
The "miracle" never happen.
That is all. | comments: Leave a comment |

- I'm moving to Porter Square in the fall.
- I'm living with Christina.
- I still don't have any funding for my MEng.
- If I don't get funding I can either take out nearly $20k in loans for a semester or...
- ...I can just find another internship for the fall semester and graduate January of 09.
- Since I play ice hockey with ITA Software, they just may be able to hook me up with a job.
- I'm really stressed.
- I have to go to the skin doctor next week to get a mole checked out that's been growing and looking really bad...
- ...and I have this weird bump on my head that causes me headaches so that needs to be checked out too.
- I hate San Jose.
- Adobe isn't that much better.
- I have no friends.
- I want to go home.
- That is all.

| | So I'm probably moving to Davis Square. I'm not sure about the area though. Can any of you guys give me some info about how safe the area is? It seems fairly safe from my internet readings, but I figured some people out here would know more. I need to make a decision like really soon. Thanks guys. | comments: 15 comments or Leave a comment |
| So I've been toying with the idea of building a computer. I have had the same shitty laptop for over 4 years now and while there isn't anything THAT wrong with my laptop, I want to upgrade (and keep the old laptop of course). My original idea was to buy a new laptop for gaming and run XP (or maybe Vista lol) on it and take my old laptop and turn it into a Linux box for programming. I decided that the best laptop I could get for my buck was an Alienware. Of course, the system I wanted (once configured) came to just under $4k. That's a lot of money to spend on a closed system, so I thought that I could just buy a desktop (as they are highly customizable). I once again toyed with the Alienware computers and found that the system I wanted came to just under $6k (with the monitor). I managed to convince myself that I could build a computer for less so I checked it out. I kinda want to build a computer because I have never done it before. I know, I'm a horrible, horrible nerd. I should feel ashamed. Anyway, I read up a lot on all of the hardware I know nothing about (e.g. motherboards lol) and pieced together most of a system.
Just for information, here are some of the specs on my laptop (it's an IBM Thinkpad R40 FYI):
- Intel Pentium M processor 1.3 GHz
- 768MB RAM (I upgraded from 256)
- 128 MB ATILOL Integrated graphics chip
- 2 USB ports
- 1394 port
- 40Gb HDD @ 5400 RPM
- Integrated sound card
- The ability to cook an egg
So you can probably see why I feel the need to upgrade. Anyway, my list of crap is posted below. It's missing a case, a power supply (if it doesn't come with the case) and maybe some cooling stuff. You guys may also suggest a sound card, but those run pretty cheaply (even the high end ones are around $100 so that's not bad). I don't need to buy XP or Vista because I get access to the Enterprise editions for free through MIT (though I guess I could shell out for a different version if necessary). There were a few things I wanted in a new desktop. I don't want to use SLI right now (for financial reasons), but I want to have the ability to upgrade easily later on. I also want a Quad core processor. I also wanted a monitor that supported 1920x1200. I could cut back on this, but it's nice to have. I'm sick of XGA (1024x768).
My new computer? (spoiler: current total is $1800)
I should disclaimer this list by telling you all that I am a horrible hardware nerd so I didn't know anything about which motherboard to get and which case I should get and all that crap so I'm hoping that someone with a little more knowledge can help me out. For example, I think I want a motherboard with the nForce chipset on it so I can upgrade later on and use SLI but I also wanted an Intel Quad Core processor. I hear that nVidia's support for the Intel processors is shitty at best (I don't know, I just heard). Things like these I want to know, but I don't know how to find them out (the internet is full of idiots and I'd trust my friends a little more than some random asshole on a message board). So please, let me know what you guys think and help me out a little. I'm excited to learn something new. | comments: 11 comments or Leave a comment |

| Yea so I did something today that I didn't think I'd ever do again. I made a conscious effort to go out and play a bunch of DDR. Apparently SJSU has an arcade that is about a 10 minute walk from my apartment. Who knew? I didn't. They have a DDREX and it's set to $0.75 for 3 songs. I think it should be 50 cents, but what can I do? I played 7 or 8 sets and surprisingly my PA didn't take too much of a hit (I haven't made a conscious effort to play in about a year). I even improved some of my old scores. For example, I black flagged Dynamite Rave and it was just a random ass 8th note (after the tricky part mind you) so in my mind I AAAed it. I also flagged Keep on Movin as a random extra stage (but I flagged that song a million and one times) so in my mind I AAAed it too. I even managed to AA Max300 with only 1 miss (I don't AA it often and I usually get a few misses). I want to FC that song so badly. The miss was early on too (in that one part where I always get a miss). Of course I had some really shitty scores on things I've SDGed or near SDGed (for example, V oni and Destiny Lovers). All in all, it felt good to get off of my fat ass and get some exercise. Thankfully the pads were in good condition and there were no emo teenagers that were fighting me for the machine. This is good because my reason for playing was purely for exercise. I've been sitting on my fat ass all day at work eating chocolate and drinking soda so I'm really out of shape. Back in Boston, I'd get to play ice hockey but I have no such luxury out here.
The arcade also had CVS, MVC2, Third Strike, KoF, T5:DR and some other random anime looking fighting game that wasn't Guilty Gear (it was called Bleeding-something-or-other...if I heard it again, I'd remember). All the fighting games were just $0.25 so that's awesome. I might just start learning how to play MVC2 if it's that cheap and there's no competition. They also had an Initial D racing game and a DM 10th style (no GF though) but I think I'll stay away from those. All I failed to mention was another racing game, Time Crisis 4, Puzzle Fighter (LOL) and some 2D scrolling plane shooting game kinda like the one in MIT that used to be next to the stupid ass tennis game. I definitely approve of their fighting game selection.
The good thing about the area is that it was filled with SJSU students so they all thought I was just another college student. Apparently their Student Union (where the arcade was) is also home to a bowling alley, some pool and ping pong tables as well as a pool so there were people coming and going the whole time I was there. It was nice to be in a social environment (even though I didn't really talk to anyone). It has been something that I have been lacking since I got out here (and the exercise too).
So now I smell like ass so I'm going to take a shower and eat some dinner. Gotta put all those calories back! | comments: 10 comments or Leave a comment |
